YouTube is raising the price of its Premium subscription in the United States for the first time since July 2023. The individual plan rises $2 to $15.99 per month. The family plan sees the largest increase, climbing $4 to $26.99.
Why it matters: the hike affects millions of US subscribers and comes as streaming services across the industry continue to push prices higher to offset slowing subscriber growth.
The new prices
The individual Premium plan moves from $13.99 to $15.99. The family plan, which covers up to six household members, goes from $22.99 to $26.99. The student plan rises $1 to $8.99. YouTube Music and the newer Premium Lite tier each increase by $1, to $11.99 and $8.99 respectively.
When it kicks in
The increases take effect with the June 2026 billing cycle. YouTube says subscribers will receive an email confirming the new price at least 30 days before the change appears on their bill.
Streaming price creep
YouTube Premium is the latest service to raise prices in a market where ad-free streaming has become steadily more expensive. Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify have all raised US subscription prices in the past 18 months. YouTube’s individual plan has risen 60% from its original $9.99 launch price in 2018.
YouTube Premium removes advertisements, enables background playback on mobile, and includes full access to YouTube Music. The company has not disclosed how many Premium subscribers it has, though it reported 100 million paying music and Premium members combined in 2024.
